Meet Samara

Samara received her Bachelors of Fine Art from Ithaca College in 2005 and her Masters in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from Lesley University in 2007.

She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts and is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Samara is trained in several expressive art therapies as well as EMDR.

After completing her masters degree, Samara moved from Massachusetts to Arizona where she started working with at-risk adolescents in a residential treatment facility. She then went on to work at two different outpatient agencies providing office, home, school, and community based therapy for children, teens, adults, and families.

Samara has also held a variety of management and leadership positions. She was a Clinical Manager and then the Clinical Director of an outpatient clinic, in which she was responsible for overseeing agency operations, providing supervision to therapists and mentors, and leading trainings.

Samara moved back to Massachusetts in 2017 and made it her permanent home, and now the home to Samara Burke Counseling.

When not working, Samara enjoys running, art, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.

What's a samara?

Besides just my name, a samara, commonly known as a “helicopter” is a seed with wings that blows in the wind to new places where it starts new growth, symbolic of the process of counseling.
